“PAVING THE WAY”

The 15th Annual Atlantic Women in Law Enforcement (AWLE) Conference will be held November 6th - 9th, 2007. What better place to have this year’s conference but in the birthplace of Canada, the smallest, but mightiest province, Prince Edward Island. We brought Canada together, now we want to bring all of you together here, for what is shaping up to be a Province House fabulous training conference.

AWLE provides this annual forum for training and development to promote teamwork as well as encourage leadership which will heighten the role of women within the membership, to promote a common understanding of issues surrounding women in policing and to advance excellence in our profession. The conference is open to both male and female enforcement officers.

In keeping with this years conference theme “Paving the Way”, the itinerary will include Atlantic, regional, and national speakers, including Gerry Leet, police officer turned bank robber. He will inspire and motivate everyone when he speaks about his personal experience in his book "Shattered by Pride". Visit his web site at www.gerryleet.com . Insp. Carma Mackie from the RCMP, Office of the Ethics Advisor in Ottawa will present on Ethics. Gord McNeilly of UFIT will provide an upbeat presentation called “Power to Believe”. Cst. Ken Wakelin of the Montague RCMP will present on drug recognition. This is just to name a few of the sessions to be presented.

By means of the conference’s annual awards banquet each year, AWLE recognizes the contributions of outstanding female officers in Atlantic Canada through the presentation of major awards for Leadership, Community Service, Mentoring, Excellence in Performance, Valour, Team Endeavor, and Officer of the Year. To find out more about AWLE, and to obtain award nomination forms view their website at www.awle.org .
