Membership Report - June 2007

Note from your Membership Coordinator Cst. Sara McElman

Well, this is my last year as your Membership Coordinator. At the 2007 Conference in Charlottetown, PE, I will not be reoffering for this Executive Position.

During my 7-year tenure as your Membership Coordinator, I have been proud to be a part of an Executive Team that have brought about exciting transitions and developments, including:

- Increased Membership
- Increased Conference Attendance
- Increased distribution of our News letter – the ‘Notebook’ (to be Bi-annual)
- Established an Awards Process & Banquet to celebrate our ‘Excellence in Performance’
- Adopted a Logo (that is recognized Provincially, Nationally & Internationally)
- Established our Website – www.awle.org
- A.W.L.E. received Federal Copyright Status
- Affiliation Status with I.A.W.P.
- Accumulating A.W.L.E. ‘Retail Products’
- Not to mention the valuable networking that takes place on a daily basis between our members

This progress is ongoing, which is why it is so important for our members to continue to be involved, encourage others to get involved and for some to actually step up and become active members of the Executive and continue to make change and advance the initiatives of the Atlantic Women in Law Enforcement Association.

Personally, I have found my time on the Executive to be an extremely valuable experience. I have acquired several skills, the most prominent is that of ‘Team Work’. We are a very diverse group, representing different provinces and various agencies (including: CBSA, Corrections, DNR & the Military), and A.W.L.E. has given me the opportunity to develop a broader insight into the variety of the roles in law enforcement within our region. Without being involved in AWLE, my exposure to other law enforcement personnel and their agencies would have been extremely limited.

I Highly encourage you to step up to this opportunity and become a member of the AWLE, and if the time is right in your career, the Executive.
