MESSAGE

A NOTE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Welcome to our website! A new page has turned with the selection of a new executive. I’m excited to work with this solid team for the next three years and look forward to serving all of you in the best interests of the association. You’ll be introduced to the new executive on the “Executive” tab. Thanks to Chris MacNaughton and the previous executive for their commitment and diligence in their terms. They have made great strides in promoting AWLE and have dedicated a great deal of their time and energy as is evident by the professional and respected reputation that this association has earned and maintained. 

Congratulations to the Charlottetown, PEI conference committee for recently hosting a successful training conference. There were approximately 130 delegates representing agencies from across the Atlantic provinces and Ontario. Congratulations also to the award winners and nominees, all very deserving of recognition. Next year’s conference will be held in Sydney, NS from November 4^th to 7^th. Stay tuned for updates.

Excitement is building over the announcement that the AWLE will be conducting a bid proposal at the next IAWP conference in Darwin, Australia to host the 2012 IAWP Conference in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Past President Chris MacNaughton has been selected as the AWLE Conference Director and has successfully put forth a proposal to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and the “B” Division RCMP to jointly host the conference, in partnership with the AWLE. Co chairs for the conference are Sgt. Sue Bill of the RNC and Sgt. Sue Efford of the RCMP. They will work with Chris in the bid proposal process. The IAWP executive will be holding their spring board meeting in St. John’s in April and will be shown what St. John’s has to offer. No doubt they will be impressed!

We’re working on producing some promotional materials to advertise the AWLE and are interested in increasing our membership. If you’re not a member of the AWLE there’s no time like the present to submit an application. With a membership you will receive a discount on conference registration fees and biannual copies of The Notebook, the AWLE publication.

We’re working on updating our website, so please be patient and check back for ongoing changes.

As you can see, there are exciting times ahead. It’s a great time to be a member and to be involved with the AWLE. I’m looking forward to the adventure.
