"Hello Everyone!"

A NOTE FROM OUR PRESIDENT: Chris MacNaughton - RCMP Fredericton

Greetings Everyone,

I hope you enjoyed your summer with family and friends.  As we enter into another season, it is this time again for new incentives and projects.  This year, the AWLE is proud to celebrate its’ 15th annual conference in Charlottetown, PEI!    What a better place to have this year’s conference but in the birthplace of Canada.  The conference Co-chairs are busy preparing another exceptional AWLE conference being held between November 6th to 9th, 2007.   The ‘island’ Co-Chairs are boasting this to be a highly motivational training conference with exceptional speakers including an ethics board comprised of Senior Executive officers from various Atlantic policing agencies.   Values and ethics play a critical role in the everyday duties of law enforcement agencies; you won’t want to miss this seminar!

Throughout the past year, the AWLE Executive have continued to focus on continuing its’ progress and growth.   The Executive have remained diligent in serving the membership of the AWLE through various initiatives and fostering partnerships within our policing environment.  The AWLE is pleased to announce a recent collaboration with the New Brunswick’s Chief of Police Association with a progressive recruiting initiative for new police officers.  Also, in anticipation of one day hosting an International Association of Women Police conference, this association continues to work with the IAWP Board of Directors and our Atlantic policing partners.   With the 2007 IAWP in Denver, Colorado fast approaching, we wish all attendees an enjoyable training symposium.

Here at home, we have seen many wonderful new initiatives from female officers recently, including the amazing charity event entitled, the ‘Scarlet Soiree’.   This extravagant evening was a charity purse auction to raise awareness of domestic violence.  It was developed by Cst. June Chiasson and hosted by female officers from across Nova Scotia. Congratulations to all the organizers!

While this organization persistently strives to make positive changes, we have been responding to the wishes of members through our feedback surveys.  With the tremendous success of the AWLE Awards Banquet, the Executive are looking forward to presenting progressive changes to the award process and nomination forms before the membership this fall.   To assist future Conference Committees, we are also pleased to have incorporated the most recent AWLE conference policy and charity guidelines policy.

In closing, this will be my last President’s message representing the AWLE.  It has truly been a pleasure to serve on the AWLE Executive in my many capacities throughout the past seven years.    I have thoroughly enjoyed the friendships and policing partnerships with our Executive, conference committees and members.   I commend and thank everyone, who in spite of their busy schedules, participates in an active way in supporting all women in law enforcement.   This has been a true highlight of my career and I am very proud of the many successes we have had as an organization.    As you move forth in your law enforcement career please keep in mind, when leaders serve those who serve others, amazing things will take place.

I want to thank you again for allowing me the opportunity to serve as President of the AWLE.

Cheers to you all!

Chris MacNaughton

President AWLE
